In collaboration with DevPro Guarantee Limited, Control Union proudly introduces ‘Sannaalee,’ Sri Lanka’s first-ever Handloom Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Code. Announced through a national-level dissemination workshop, this initiative marks a significant milestone in enhancing the handloom industry in Sri Lanka.

The development of ‘Sannaalee’ has been a long and collective journey, bringing together government institutions, academia, and industry associations to establish a robust GMP code. We have laid the foundation for a more structured and responsible approach to handloom manufacturing through rigorous standards development and extensive stakeholder consultations.

Key Criteria of the ‘Sannaalee’ Handloom GMP Code

- Location & Structure – Ensuring weaving centers are situated in safe, uncontaminated environments with proper ventilation, lighting, and operational space.
- Equipment Maintenance – Regular inspection and upkeep of weaving equipment to maintain safety and quality.
- Raw Material Management – Effective supplier selection and monitoring to ensure high-quality raw materials.
- Human Resources – Competency training for operators and hygiene, safety, and emergency preparedness measures.
- Weaving Techniques – Compliance with specified weaving methods and quality management of handloom textiles.
- Chemical Management – Safe handling and disposal of chemicals used in dyeing and other textile processes.
- Record Keeping – Comprehensive documentation to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.
