What is Zero Waste to Landfill Certification?
Zero waste to landfill is a strategy to divert waste from landfills by implementing practices like reuse, recycling, composting, and energy recovery, aiming to minimize or eliminate waste sent to landfills.
Organizations must achieve a minimum of 75% waste diversion to qualify for certification over a 12-month reporting period.
The ZWL standard encompasses a broad range of waste categories, including:

- Waste stored in facilities
- Waste-to-energy solutions
- Ash and hazardous waste

Certification Levels

- Advanced Level Waste Diversion – Recognizing high-performing facilities with significant waste reduction efforts.
- Near Zero Waste to Landfill Certification – For organizations nearing complete landfill waste elimination.
- Zero Waste to Landfill Certification – Awarded to those meeting the highest standard of waste diversion.
